Education Minister addresses Assembly’s Questions on ESA

In the Assembly session on 4 October, the Education Minister took part in the Oral Questions. She answered two questions in relation to ESA which were specifically focused on; the number of staff expressing an interest in Voluntary Severance to facilitate the establishment of ESA and whether the issues previously raised by the Protestant Transferors in relation to ESA have now been resolved.

Comments:

As usual, resolution is far from near. This state of limbo is proving detrimental to education provision. Members should act with a greater sense of urgency and complete this process.

I'm a little confused at how the Minister is able to tell the Assembly that staff at "every level of every organisation agree that ESA should happen". In the three years of this debacle neither I nor any of my colleagues remember being asked if we believed the Ministers plans under ESA was the best way forward for the education sector. While I am not saying that we disagree with the proposals (if it ever happens) I can not see how a Minister can state this. Maybe we missed the questionaire?
