Preparing Together for ESA – Launch Event 4th April 2008
The focus for the next 4 months is on the implementation of a change management strategy for the establishment of ESA, incorporating a convergence programme to bring existing services together to improve outcomes for children and young people.
The first phase of implementation, up to June 2008, involves significant engagement with the affected organisations and employee representatives through workshops, working groups, consultative groups and project teams.
On 4th April, a launch event for this programme of engagement was held entitled ‘Preparing Together for the Education and Skills Authority’. This was attended by approximately 200 senior managers and heads of service delivery from across the education service - Event Objectives. The event was chaired by Tom Frawley, the Assembly Ombudsman and Northern Ireland Commissioner for Complaints. It included speeches from senior officials from both the Department of Education and the ESA Implementation Team, including the Chief Executive Designate of ESA, Gavin Boyd.
This was followed by a couple of discussion sessions, where delegates considered the challenges and opportunities arising from the establishment of ESA.
This event will be followed during April and May by a series of service specific workshops, aimed at getting staff input on how services can best be delivered in the new organisation.
Below are the presentations delivered at the event as well as a summary of the main points raised at the two discussion group sessions.
John McGrath (Deputy Secretary, DE)
